If you want to experience for real how it felt to sleep in a lumberjack’s barrack from the 1930s then come and spend the night at Skumbo.
This little goldmine is set deep in the dark Gåsinge forests. It may not be gold you’ll find but other types of mines can be found in the area.
Östra Sörmlands Gruvförening was formed in 1981 to preserve the old mining scene at Skottvångs Gruva and to document the lives of the miners and charcoal burners at Åkers Bergslag.
There are 10 beds in bunk beds, a stove for heating and paraffin lamps.
There is a kitchen, hot and cold water, showers and toilet in ‘Bybastun’ sauna 100 metres from Skumbo. A log-fired sauna is included in your booking. It is also possible to only book the wood-fired sauna and adjoining shower.
