“For us partners it’s important that Lokstallet is a creative and thriving environment, where diversity is important. It creates healthy cooperation and new markets, which has led to new business opportunities for all of us in the house.“

LOKSTALLET

Creative joy at Lokstallet in Gnesta

There is an old engine shed (lokstallet) in Gnesta which dates back to the start of the 20th century. The site was not actually used as an engine shed for such a long time but was instead sold back in 1928 and its turntable removed. The site has been used as a workshop for much of the 20th century. And still today the site vibrates with creative talent and joy.
Some entrepreneurs bought Lokstallet from the municipality in 2008 and since then it has been carefully renovated in line with the specific demands based on its listed status.

The company Lokstallet Gnesta AB owns and manages the site, and one of their tasks is to rent the site to other entrepreneurs with an interest in culture and handicrafts.

Creative and inspiring

And that’s why at Lokstallet you’ll find inspiring and engaging theatre shows by Långsjö theatre. Or you can buy beautiful ceramics at the potter Sonja Kedem, whether it’s something for your dining table or a fantastic washbasin. You can give your body and soul a gentle dose of agility with yoga teacher Virginia Schermer. Artists such as Johanna Törnqvist and Folkloren also have their inspiring workplace here.

Ambitious partners

The owners of Lokstallet Gnesta AB also run their own creative companies. Tobias Ed, one of the partners, is active as a joiner and furniture maker in the company Lokstallet Snickeri AB together with furniture maker Frida Chrislan, also a partner. The furniture makers’ workshop is based on the ground floor where they make a variety of furniture including beautiful wooden school desks.

Lena Orring runs her company Design Lokstallet here. She has sold her colourful bags and wallets at many sites including markets at Stallarholmen. She is also one of the partners of Lokstallet Gnesta AB, and is now setting up a shop on the ground floor, where many of the creative spirits at Lokstallet will be represented.

“For us partners it’s important that Lokstallet is a creative and thriving environment, where diversity is important. It creates healthy cooperation and new markets, which has led to new business opportunities for all of us in the house,” says Lena.
